Easy Candied Spiced Walnuts

A quick, sugary pick-me-up for the skintrack or trail.

We love sugar. And luckily, we tend to need a lot of it while skiing, biking, hiking, running.... you get the point. Candied nuts are a quick way to pack in a ton of calories on the trail, plus they're just so darn tasty I started throwing them on salads, and snacking on them for an afternoon pick-me-up. They come together so quickly (take the time to roast the nuts, it's worth it!), and are so easy to customize to whatever nut or spice you want.

Swap out some regular nuts for these for an even sweeter bag of trail mix!

Candied Nuts, spiced however the heck you want

Ingredients

  • 2 cups walnuts (or any kind of nut you like)

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1/4 tsp. salt, plus more to taste

  • Optional spices: 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 1/4 tsp. chilli powder, 1/4 tsp. ginger

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.

  2. Spread nuts on baking sheet and toast for 5-7 minutes, until fragrant and starting to brown.

  3. Heat sugar in a wide saucepan. Add in salt and spices and stir until it all melts together.

  4. Once it melts, kill the heat, add in nuts and stir until everything is coated. Spread out over a baking sheet to let cool and sprinkle with flake salt.

  5. Let cool for 15 minutes and enjoy!
